New technique

Ineffective in the series against England earlier this year, when Ashwin took 14 wicket at the lowly average of 52.64, he cherished more than twice as many for half as much on Sunday. The prolific off-spinner's 29 wickets came at 20.10 each - and earned him the Player of the Series accolade. You didn't know which ball was going to bounce and turn and which one was going to scoot along the surface. You had to try and make sure you increased your pace so that the batsman didn't have time to adjust. It was easier on the third day, compared to the previous evening. Having said that, the chase was tricky and I think Pujara deserves a lot of credit for what he did, in spite of batting with a fractured finger added Ashwin.Actually, my delivery stride was too long and it got worse during the Test series against England. I had to sit back and work on the videos and I was lucky to have a coach, Sunil Subramaniam, who identified the problem pretty quickly. Credit also goes to Duncan Fletcher and Joe Dawes. I needed a kick on my backside and they gave me one insisted Ashwin. The bulk of the Indian squad will soon join their respective Indian Premier League franchises ahead of the domestic Twenty20 tournament's sixth edition. Ashwin, who represents the Chennai Super Kings, maintained he will take his fine form in the longest format of the game into its shortest version. His first-innings five-for and an attacking 82 not out from opener Cheteshwar Pujara were particularly key to victory inside three days at the Feroz Shah Kotla, where the Aussies were resigned to a historic four-nil series whitewash.
