Horsham Win the Deans Women’s Indoor League
Ansty, last year’s champions kept up
with the run rate with captain, Natasha Sole retiring, but Horsham kept
taking wickets at regular times and bowled and fielded tightly.
With Ansty needing 12 off the last
over, Horsham kept the field tight and restricted Ansty to just 4 runs
in the final over and winning by 8 runs to be crowned league champions.
In 2012 the Sussex Cricket Board
introduced the Women’s Indoor League which had four clubs involved and
saw Ansty as the first winners.
This year the league was sponsored the
Dean’s Leisure Centre, where the league was held and where the Sussex
Women train. Seven clubs were involved this year, Ansty CC, Bells Yew
Green CC, Chippingdale CC, Henfield CC, Horsham CC, Selsey CC and
Steyning CC.
There were two leagues, with the
winners which were Horsham and Ansty then competing in a final to
determine the league champions.
Horsham batted first and posted 111
for 1, with Hannah Phelps, Jessica Saunders and Charlotte Walder all
having to retire on 25.
2013 Senior's Fixures
In 2012 the Sussex Cricket Board introduced the Women’s Indoor League which had four clubs involved and saw Ansty as the first winners.
Sussex Women & Girls community coach, Charlotte Burton, who runs the league said, “It is great to see more clubs involved this year and to have the support from the Deans Leisure centre, which has helped make the league a success. The league enables the clubs to play more cricket throughout the year and it is a highly competitive league which helps develop player’s skills ready for the summer matches. The league will continue next year where we hope to have more clubs involved again.”
