Cook and McCullum reflect

             

  England salvaged a draw on the final day at Eden Park, with Matt Prior's unbeaten 110 the saving grace as the Kiwis failed to get the final wicket required for the win.England completed what by all accounts was a disappointing series in New Zealand. The squad was not at full strength with Graeme Swann and Tim Bresnan recovering from elbow injuries. Pietersen was also sidelined for the final Test with a knee complaint.Cook was understandably concerned about the fitness of Pietersen, especially with the Champions Trophy and Ashes on the horizon for England. He chose to remain positive when talking about the severity of Pietersen's injury.It is heartbreaking, obviously, McCullum said. We played some brilliant cricket throughout the series but especially in this Test match, and dictated terms from day one and we gave it every chance to force the result.The guys were back to their best, putting New Zealand under a lot of pressure and not letting them get away from us.That is one of our hallmarks. The New Zealand skipper managed to put aside his obvious disappointment and admitted to being pleased with his team. "We tried everything but came up just short. It was a wonderful Test match," said McCullum before adding, We're certainly trending in the right direction - that's very pleasing.
