South Africa ODI

The only frontline spinner in the side contributed to a successful series. His bowling was on the mark but lacked impact against the Pakistan batsmen, who are comfortable playing against spin. He didn't let the team down during his limited chances with the bat, scoring some valuable runs down the order. The man who occupied the number three slot during the series started off with a bang as he scored a wonderful century. He didn't really get going during the remaining games, illustrating how difficult it can be against the new ball. He has shown, however, that when he gets in, he can make it count. This is a characteristic which will hold him in good stead for the remainder of his career. He will probably be the backup batsman at the Champions Trophy and will be called upon if there is a problem with Kallis, Duminy or Du Plessis.Faf didn't have a series to remember. He managed to get starts, but was unable to make any meaningful contributions. He injured his back and was unable to play the final two matches of the series. His fielding was up to its usual high standard and his ability with the bat was clear for all to see during his brief innings. He will be an important member of the team moving forward.Behardien is another one of those players who is trying to cement a permanent position in the line-up. He has enhanced his reputation during this series, showing an ability to score quickly toward the end of the innings as well as bat for periods of time to consolidate after the loss of early wickets. He is a very good fielder, but with the return of Jacques Kallis, Faf du Plessis and JP Duminy, Behardien will find it difficult to remain in the starting XI.
