South Africa ODI

The skipper showed how vital he is to the success of the team in the final match of the series. His batting was in another division and he was tidy behind the stumps, walking away with the Man-of the-Match and Player-of-the-Series awards in Benoni. If South Africa are going to be competitive in the Champions Trophy, then De Villiers's form will be crucial.Faf didn't have a series to remember. He managed to get starts, but was unable to make any meaningful contributions. He injured his back and was unable to play the final two matches of the series. His fielding was up to its usual high standard and his ability with the bat was clear for all to see during his brief innings. He will be an important member of the team moving forward.Behardien is another one of those players who is trying to cement a permanent position in the line-up. He has enhanced his reputation during this series, showing an ability to score quickly toward the end of the innings as well as bat for periods of time to consolidate after the loss of early wickets. He is a very good fielder, but with the return of Jacques Kallis, Faf du Plessis and JP Duminy, Smith had a poor series before missing the final game through an ankle injury. He had problems dealing with the giant quick Mohammad Irfan. The old saying, however, is still true that when Smith plays well, South Africa play well. It will be important in the Champions Trophy that Smith scores some runs and imposes himself at the top of the order.
