Bangalore, May 19: Thousands of fans were excited early Sunday by Royal Challengers Bangalore's (RCB) emphatic 24-run win over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in a rain-marred last league tie of the IPL 6 tournament at the Chinnaswamy stadium here. Chasing an imposing 107-run target in eight overs, CSK could post only 82 runs for six wickets after RCB's seamer Zaheer Khan ran through its top and middle order to pick four wickets in two overs for just 17 runs. Fans excited by RCB's win over CSK "It's a sweet revenge for the home team (RCB) as it lost to CSK on the last ball in Chennai last month (April 13) after its pacer (RP Singh) bowled a no-ball in a close match," Ram Murthy, a college student, told IANS after the truncated match ended on a high note. Though heavy rains delayed the match by three hours late Saturday, about 15,000 fans waited patiently to watch a must-win game for RCB, as the two valuable points it secured put them in the reckoning for a berth in the play-offs along with Sunrisers Hyderabad, which also has 18 points from 15 games. David Warner: Australia batsman faces hearing over 'abusive' tweets

Australia's Test opening batsman David Warner has been charged with breaching Cricket Australia's code of behaviour after abusive comments were posted on his Twitter account.The 26-year-old faces a CA hearing over the abusive messages to journalists.The posts, some containing obscene language, appeared after News Limited's Robert Craddock criticised the Indian Premier League.Warner is currently appearing in the IPL for Delhi Daredevils.Australian cricket's governing body said: "Cricket Australia has today advised that David Warner has been reported for breaching CA's Code of Behaviour."Warner is alleged to have breached Rule 6: Unbecoming Behaviour, regarding comments posted on his twitter account."Rule 6 states: "Players and officials must not at any time engage in behaviour unbecoming to a representative player or official that could (a) bring them or the game of cricket into disrepute or (b) be harmful to the interests of cricket. CCI orders probe into IPL spot-fixing allegations

Chennai, May 19: BCCI on Sunday launched an internal probe into spot-fixing allegations against three Rajasthan Royals players. Ravi Sawani has been appointed as the commissioner of the investigation. The BCCI also decided that all players' agents need to be registered with the Indian board and accredited by them from now on. Strictest action will be taken only after the internal investigation is completed, according to the BCCI. "Everybody is innocent until proven guilty. If they are proven guilty, we will take the strictest action. Our actions must be fair. We will go through the process," said BCCI president N Srinivasan. BCCI working committee had called an emergent meeting today to discuss the spot-fixing issue. The meeting was also attended by ICC Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) chief YP Singh. RR owners and management were also called for the meeting by BCCI. Addressing the media, Srinivsan said that Sawani, who also heads BCCI's ACSU will head the panel to probe the allegations and submit a report to the board. He also added that players' agents need to be accredited. Also, Srinivasan said that RR management have decided to file a police complaint against all three players. On bookies operating in the country, Srinivasan said BCCI was "handicapped" and cannot control bookies. IPL chairman Rajiv Shukla, BCCI vice president Arun Jaitley and Anil Kumble joined the meeting via video conference from Delhi and Dharamsala respectively. Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan of Rajasthan Royals were arrested by Delhi police for their alleged involvement in spot-fixing in the ongoing IPL. The three cricketers were sent to police custody for five days on the same day, Thursday. On Saturday, Mumbai police seized Sreesanth's laptop, I-pad, mobile phones, data cards and Rs 72,000 cash from his hotel room. New Delhi  :  The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) swung into action Friday calling an emergency meeting and suspending a cricketer, but more and more sordid details of the spot fixing scandal came tumbling as the three arrested players, including S. They also found out that one of the players was told to rope in others in the sordid saga.It was Ajit Chandila, arrested Wednesday night from Mumbai along with his Rajasthan Royals colleagues Sreesanth and Ankeet Chavan, who reportedly told police that he tried to rope in two more players at the behest of bookies who had promised to offer him Rs.20 lakh for bowling a fixed over. But the two players refused.“During questioning, Chandila told police that he met bookies at Country Club in Manesar (adjoining Delhi) on April 6. In the meeting, the bookies asked him to rope in more players for spot fixing. He gave two names and the bookies asked him to bring them to a party where the deal could be discussed,” police sources told IANS.However, the two cricketers refused to attend the party.Chandila also reportedly told interrogators that in the 2012 IPL season, the last two overs of a match between Delhi Daredevils and Rajasthan Royals might have been fixed.Amidst media reports that Rajasthan Royals co-owner Shilpa Shetty, her husband Raj Kundra and captain Rahul Dravid would also be questioned, police denied calling them for the probe.The police said they were able to trail the sleazy connection when they started to intercept the calls of aides of Tiger Memon, who is said to be in Dubai, since March 2013.They also said that escorts were used to lure the players into the net.Sources also told IANS that when Sreesanth was arrested from Trident Hotel in south Mumbai’s Nariman Point late Wednesday, he was with a woman. Police refused to give more details about her. They also ruled out her involvement in spot fixing.The three players, who along with 11 bookies have been remanded to five days’ police custody, have been lodged in the office of Delhi Police’s Special Cell in Lodhi Colony.Police said all the three players have confessed to their crime.While Sreesanth was the only who went without dinner, his two team mates along with the 11 bookies had a hearty meal Thursday night in police custody. But the fast bowler had rajma-chawal as brunch Friday, police sources said.After he had had his brunch, Sreesanth was questioned by Delhi PoliceCommissioner Neeraj Kumar.Coming out of the Special Cell office, the top cop said Sreesanth was “cooperating” in the investigations.The first to break down was Chavan, a senior police officer told IANS.“He broke down when we questioned him. He accepted that he made a mistake. He also accepted his role in spot fixing,” he added.Of the 11 bookies, Chandresh Patel, who was arrested from Mumbai’s Andheri area, may be the main conspirator in this case, police said. He was into the profession for many years, police added.Sources also said that Sreesanth was directly approached by cricketer-turned bookie Jiju Janardhan, his distant cousin who has also been arrested. He had played for Kerala U-25 cricket team.Although the three accused confessed to their crimes, their families and lawyers maintained they were innocent.Deepak Prakash, Sreesanth’s lawyer, said: “Sreesanth has been falsely or mistakenly arrested. They (Delhi Police) have got some wrong information or mistakenly arrested him.”Delhi Police said more teams have been sent to other states to conduct raids.Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde, meanwhile, congratulated Delhi Police for the investigations.Asked about the underworld link in the betting racket, he said: “Police is investigating.”

New Delhi  :  The probe into the IPL spot-match fixing scam was intensified Saturday with Mumbai police seizing the mobiles, iPhones and laptops of cricketer S.Sreesanth and his relative, bookie Jiju Janardhan while the three arrested players were jointly quizzed.Police are also scanning the diaries of Sreesanth which contain significant information pertaining to the scam, Mumbai Police’s Joint Commissioner (Crime) Himanshu Roy, who is spearheading the investigations, told media persons in Mumbai.One more bookie, Pravin Bera, was arrested from Mumbai Saturday, taking the total number of bookies arrested from the city and other parts of the country to 12, besides the three cricketers – Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila and Ankit Chavan, all playing for the Rajasthan Royals. Roy said that Mumbai police are contemplating seeking custodial investigation of the three cricketers who were nabbed from a Mumbai five-star hotel three days ago, blowing the lid off the sensational scam.Police also searched the room in a five-star hotel in south Mumbai where Sreesanth and Janardhan were living, he said.“We are also scanning the CCTV footage of the hotel to find out who they met during their stay there, their movements, and visitors who called on them,” Roy said, adding that police will reconstruct the sequence of events in the hotel May 14/15 till Sreesanth’s arrest.Besides Bera, bookies Ramesh Vyas, Pankaj Shah alias Lotus, Ashok Vyas, Pandurang Kadam, Niraj Shah have been arrested so far from Mumbai and Ahmedabad.Police had raided bookie Vyas’s office in Kalbadevi and he was nabbed May 14, the same night when the cricketer trio was picked up by Delhi Police.From Vyas, the investigators came across a rich haul of 92 mobile phone, 18 SIM cards, account books, laptops, a TV set, satellite dish etc,“Thirty of the mobile phones were used to make conference calls to bookies in India, Pakistan and Dubai by Vyas, who was in touch with all the bookies and had also given some money to them,” Roy revealed“We have several more bookies wanted in connection with this scam,” he said, hinting at more arrests.In New Delhi, the three arrested players were again questioned but now in each others’ presence, an official said.The suspects confessed their crime but blamed each other for dragging them into spot fixing, police sources said.The three were brought before each other in a room in the office of the Special Cell of police in Lodhi Colony in south Delhi and questioned for two hours, the sources said.This was the first occasion when the three players were confronted with each other. They were questioned separately Friday, police said.The accused’s interrogation was done under the supervision of Special Commissioner of Police S.N. Srivastava, police sources said.The three were confronted with the nabbed bookies, audio recordings and other material evidence gathered by the investigators into the scam.During separate interrogation Saturday, 11 bookies, all of whom are in police custody, were also brought before each other, sources said.Delhi Police also conducted raids in several cities including Mumbai and Ahmedabad to track the money trail in connection with the alleged spot fixing racket, sources said.In Chennai, Tamil Nadu Police said they expect to achieve a breakthrough soon in the cricket betting case in which six bookies were arrested Friday.“We expect to achieve break through in the case soon. We also raided three premises here Saturday,” a senior official of at Crime Branch-Crime Investigation Department (CBCID), who did not want to be named, told IANS.Mumbai police are meanwhile keen to invoke the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) on all the accused, currently facing charges for cheating and criminal conspiracy, after complying with the necessary pre-conditions for this law, Roy said.In a post-midnight swoop Wednesday, a team of Delhi Police’s Special Cell had arrested the three cricketers for their alleged involvement in spot fixing in the ongoing IPL-6 season for payments of upto Rs.6 million for allowing a pre-determined number of runs in an over.Investigators believe that fixing of different types may be prevalent in other matches in the current IPL and also in the earlier IPLs.

Dharamsala : Playing their final league match, Kings XI Punjab finished on a winning note by beating table-toppers Mumbai Indians by 50 runs in their Indian Premier League (IPL) clash here at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium Saturday. It was also the last match of their captain, Adam Gilchrist, who has announced his retirement from the format.Put into bat, the home team posted a challenging total of 183/8 with the help of two fantastic knocks from Azhar Mahmood (80) and Shaun Marsh (63). In reply, the Indians could only manage 133 in 19.1 overs with none of the batsmen playing an anchor’s knock.With this win, the Punjab-based team finished their IPL campaign sixth with 16 points, thus not qualifying for the playoffs.Kings XI lost Gilchrist (5) and Mandeep Singh (1) cheaply by the third over which put the hosts in a spot of bother but Mahmood and Marsh struck a 148-run third wicket partnership which set up their innings.The former Pakistani all-rounder hit eight boundaries and four sixes in his 44-ball knock while Australia’s Marsh scored 11 boundaries all around the scenic ground, located in the middle of the snow-covered peaks.The lower order failed to capitalise on the partnership in the last few overs which is why they could not reach 200. Pune : Delhi Daredevils, who topped the league standings in the last Indian Premier League, finished last this season after losing to Pune Warriors at the Subrata Roy Sahara Stadium here Sunday.Delhi fell 38 runs short of Pune’s 172 for five, ending at 134 for nine. The home side skipper Aaron Finch slammed 52 runs off 34 balls while left-arm spinner Ali Murtaza and all-rounder Angelo Matthews snapped up three wickets each.With this match, a sorry season came to an end for both teams. Two dashing middle-order tons for Sri Lanka A ended Rest of Sri Lanka's winning streak in the List A tournament in Pallekele, as the A team recorded a 139-run victory - their first in the tournament. Hundreds to Ashan Priyanjan and Angelo Perera propelled Sri Lanka A to 325 for 5 in their 50 overs, and Rest of Sri Lanka mustered only 186 all out in response, with none of their batsmen able to cross 50. Rest of Sri Lanka were missing their two best-performing bowlers in Rangana Herath and Nuwan Kulasekara, both of whom had been rested, and were also hamstrung by an injury to Chanaka Welegedara, who could only deliver 16 balls in the match.Rest of Sri Lanka began poorly, as they lost their first four wickets for 79 inside the first 20 overs, but were soon revived, then roaring, thanks to the 224-run partnership between Perera and Priyanjan. The pair began cautiously, as they worked to rebuild from the early losses, as Priyanjan took 24 deliveries to make his first 10 runs, and Perera struck significantly less than a run-a-ball for his first 30, but quickly accelerated after the 32nd over, at the end of which their side was at 122. The next 16.4 overs of their association was a blur of boundaries, with the 23-run slaughter of the 46th over - where Priyanjan hit a boundary off each of the five Chamara Kapugedara balls he faced - was a particular highlight. Australia news Warner could be in trouble over tweets

David Warner could face disciplinary action from Cricket Australia after apparently launching a Twitter attack on two of Australia's most senior cricket journalists.Cricket Australia's general manager of team performance, Pat Howard, has attempted to make contact with Warner after the tirade emerged from Warner's Twitter account @davidwarner31 in the early hours of Saturday morning Indian time. Warner is currently in India for the IPL.The outburst appeared to begin with Warner taking exception to a comment piece written by Robert Craddock which was printed in News Limited newspapers on Saturday in which he discussed the IPL and its problems. The following tweet appeared on Warner's Twitter account: "Shock me @crashcraddock1 talking s*** about ipl jealous p****. Get a real job. All you do is bag peopleCraddock was then mentioned in a series of six bitter tweets and while Craddock did not respond on Twitter, his fellow News Limited journalist Malcolm Conn did. Conn wrote: "@davidwarner31 cricket is a real job? Please. Most people pay to play. Million dollar cricketers milking the IPL are hardly the best judges." Warner and Conn then engaged in a protracted Twitter discussion.Cricket Australia said in a statement on Saturday: "Cricket Australia is aware of comments made on David Warner's twitter account overnight. Cricket Australia is attempting to contact Warner and will continue to investigate the matter. Cricket Australia will make further comment once it has conducted a thorough investigation."

Sunrisers take lead in playoff race, Royals miss out on top two

Sunrisers Hyderabad gave themselves a lead over Royal Challengers Bangalore in the race for the final spot in the IPL playoffs, with a comprehensive win over the troubled Rajasthan Royals, their sixth win out of seven home games. Both Sunrisers and Royal Challengers have a game left, but Sunrisers play the easier opposition in Kolkata Knight Riders. Royal Challengers go up against Chennai Super Kings in their last match.Royals, who have qualified for the playoffs but have also been rocked by an alleged spot-fixing scandal, began the game needing a big win to give themselves a chance of finishing in the top two. For a long time they looked like they could do so, thanks largely to James Faulkner's second five-for of the season - both against Sunrisers - but they let Sunrisers back in followed by an indifferent batting display in the chase of 137.Royals will rue a seemingly innocuous moment in the sixth over. Sunrisers had gone against their winning formula of chasing at home and were in deep trouble when Biplab Samantray took two instinctive steps down the wicket and went back a little lazily. The ball had gone towards point, Ajinkya Rahane swooped in, and had actually run Samantray out. Except that nobody appealed.Had Rahane appealed, Sunrisers would have been reduced to 21 for 4. Instead Samantray - 8 off 12 then - went on to score his first IPL fifty, which took Sunrisers to a fighting total. With Darren Sammy, Samantray added 56 runs in 5.5 overs. Sammy scored 23 off 19. Sunrisers didn't even manage a big push towards the end, because Faulkner came back to undo the rebuilding work, but Sunrisers' bowlers have defended worse than 136.Their two big bowlers - Dale Steyn and Amit Mishra - set the tone of the defence. Steyn bowled fast, accurate and with swing, and conceded just four runs in his first two overs. Royals had surprisingly still opened with Rahul Dravid and Ajinkya Rahane because they needed a huge-win-or-nothing approach: they couldn't have missed out on the playoffs but needed a win and a big net-run-rate boost to compete for the top two slots.The pressure exerted by Steyn was too much on the openers, and Mishra didn't let up at all. He returned the joint-most economical figures of this season: 4-0-8-2. In between, Rahane and Shane Watson holed out, effectively ending the chase. Mumbai and Super Kings now finish in the top two, and Royals await either Sunrisers or Royal Challengers in the eliminator.

Taylor wrests initiative despite Anderson's 300th

Sustained pressure with the ball and a brave counter-attacking innings from Ross Taylor meant that New Zealand continued to hold a slight advantage at Lord's, despite James Anderson's best efforts to wrestle back control with a high-class bowling display during which he claimed his 300th Test wicket.After restricting England to 232 - scored at barely two-an-over throughout and with the last six wickets falling for 40 - New Zealand faced early problems themselves at 7 for 2 against a fired-up Anderson. By the close, which came early due to bad light, they had recovered to be 79 behind, although the loss of Dean Brownlie shortly before the end evened the scales a touch.Anderson had ended the series in New Zealand on 298 scalps and soon began closing in on his landmark when he had Hamish Rutherford well caught at first slip in the first over. Then, in his fourth over, he found the edge of Peter Fulton's bat and the catch was held, low down, at second slip by his close friend Graeme Swann to become the fourth Englishman to the 300 mark. It was 20 years after the previous, Ian Botham in 1984, and almost 10 years to the day since his Test debut on this ground, against Zimbabwe, in 2003. Overall, he was the 26th bowler to reach the milestone in Test cricket; for England the others are Fred Trueman (307), Bob Willis (325) and Botham (383).Anderson, though, lacked support from his fellow quicks until Steven Finn, now back on his longer run, pitched the ball fuller to win an lbw against Brownlie but only after using the DRS to overturn Steve Davis' initial not-out decision.Either side of tea, England were poor and New Zealand responded superbly to their early difficulties. In Taylor, they had the first batsman in the match to try and put some pressure back on the bowlers with a fifty that came off 49 balls. His innings would conclude with 13 boundaries: England hit 21 through their entire 112 overs.Any error in line or length - of which there were both from Finn and Stuart Broad - was punished, but Taylor also made some calculated judgements to attack deliveries that others may have played more cautiously. With Alastair Cook knowing that he did not have a mountain of runs on the board, and unable to keep Anderson going forever, the pressure was quickly reapplied to England.Although Graeme Swann gave Cook some control - and wicket-taking threat - it was no surprise that Anderson provided the lift England desperately needed. With the second ball of a new spell, this time from the Nursery End, he swung one back into Taylor's pad for which the batsman almost walked before being given.That broke a stand of 93 in 25 overs and, though Taylor dominated, Kane Williamson more than played his part, showing his ability off the back foot. He was, though, given a life on 23 by Matt Prior - who had earlier bagged a first-ball duck to mark a tricky start to his season after being named England's player of the year - when he went one-handed for an edge off Anderson where he may have been able to use both gloves. When collecting his award on Monday, Prior did note how "fickle" the game can be. Then, on 27, England did not review for a catch down the leg side that replays showed had grazed the bat.This match is shaping to go against the trend of relatively high-scoring encounters at Lord's even in May. England's batting continued to be wrapped in caution after they resumed on 160 for 4 and an innings that had crept along unravelled quickly either side of lunch as New Zealand's diligence and discipline was rewarded.Tim Southee broke the deadlock with two wickets in two balls to spark a slide of 4 for 9 in 17 balls before the interval, and he also claimed the final wickets to finish with 4 for 48. For the second time in two series England had begun without an individual half-century.Joe Root had played very solidly, as much as any of the top order, on his first appearance at Lord's until glancing Southee past his hip where BJ Watling, excellent behind the stumps, took the catch diving to his left. In New Zealand, and on the first day here, Southee bowled without the luck his efforts deserved so no one could begrudge him a change in fortune. But it was a tough way for Root to depart after he had played another mature innings. For the first time ever, for any team, four of the top five batsmen departed between 31 and 40.If the ball to claim Root was not the best Southee had bowled, the delivery to trap Prior was certainly up there; an off-cutter (or at least a scrambled seam) that gripped slightly on the surface to beat the inside edge in front of middle and leg. Prior opted for a review and while the decision was not plumb, 'umpires' call' on hitting was enough for Southee and New Zealand.Broad survived the hat-trick ball as it slid wide of off stump, but not much longer. His part in the match-saving heroics at Auckland was all the more surprising because of the decline in his batting over the last months. On this occasion he was stone dead lbw to Wagner (so much so that even Broad knew he couldn't ask for a review) as he was beaten by a full delivery that straightened but he did not give himself the best chance to survive by aiming towards square leg.Although Wagner sprayed the occasional ball outside off he found the most movement of the three quicks during a spell where he charged in from the Nursery End. He was quickly in the face of Swann - who was welcomed back to Test cricket with a couple of sharp bouncers having had the temerity to drive a boundary through point - but it was another full delivery that ended his brief stay and gave Watling his fourth catch.Bairstow watched from the non-striker's end as he, too, reigned in a natural attacking instinct, but did produce a couple of strong straight drives that defied the slow outfield. He was left doing what he could with the tail for company and was just threatening to try a few more shots when he watched Southee cling onto a thumping drive.

BCCI to discuss spot-fixing issue on Sunday

A day after suspending three Rajasthan Royals cricketers who were arrested for their alleged involvement in spot-fixing during the IPL, the BCCI has convened an emergency meeting of its working committee, the panel responsible for its functioning, in Chennai on Sunday."The Working Committee will discuss, among other things, the fallout of the spot-fixing controversy in the ongoing IPL, in which three players have been arrested by the Delhi Police," BCCI secretary Sanjay Jagdale said in a statement issued on Friday. Jagdale also confirmed the arrest and suspension of Amit Singh, the Gujarat and former Rajasthan Royals cricketer who was caught in the spot-fixing scandal as a bookie.Despite the Delhi Police interrogating all the four cricketers that have been arrested so far, there is a growing feeling among the BCCI members that all the players should be "banned for life" even before the investigations are over. "These players have tarnished the image of the game so much that it would take a long time for us to restore it," a member told ESPNcricinfo, preferring anonymity. "We will be taking some important decisions [at the working committee meeting]. The strongest possible action will be taken against the guilty. Whoever is found to be involved in spot-fixing will not be spared," Shukla said.Shukla also revealed that BCCI's anti-corruption and security unit (ACSU), headed by Ravi Sawani, has been asked to investigate the matter and submit its report. "If we have Sawani's preliminary report by Sunday, we will go through it and discuss it," Shukla said. It has also been learned that Srinivasan has also asked the ACSU to be represented at the meeting.Rajasthan Royals on Friday announced that they had begun their own investigations into the matter.While Srinivasan had started consultations with his colleagues for the Chennai meeting, the city also had a lot of action on the spot-fixing front since Thursday night. The Tamil Nadu police took a cue from their Delhi counterparts and conducted several raids on bookies, arresting six of them, besides seizing numerous gadgets and Rs 40 lakh (US$73,000) in cash.However, the Chennai Police clarified in a media briefing that their raids had revealed only "betting" syndicates and hadn't established links between the bookies and IPL players.
